Egypt is George Bush’s "fault"

Pretty soon we will be hearing a re-birth of the old Bangles’ song “Walk Like an Egyptian.”

I predicted last week that Mubarak would either step down or relinquish the “presidency” very soon. It came on Friday 2/11/11. Interesting combination of numbers, to be sure. Mubarak was not a fan of Israel, he had his butt handed to him from them in the past. He was a fighter pilot for the Egyptian Air Force in the 6 (or 7) Day War in June of 1967. He has been an ally of Israel because of fear. The type of government that will unfold in Egypt has yet to materialize, but it is my inclination that it will be a “pro-democratic” one. This is as a direct result of George W. Bush’s actions following the attacks on 9/11/01. Remember, it took until 2 years after Reagan left office to see the fall of the Soviet Union.

Ahmadinejad is running scared. He made a speech that sounded as though he was trying to sell the people of Egypt into choosing what he was selling. I saw right through him.

A brief history lesson. The United States had an election shifted as a result of terrorism. Sirhan Sirhan shot and killed Robert Kennedy on June 6, 1968, one year to the date of the start of the 6 (or 7) Day War. Sirhan x2 was a Palestinian born in Jerusalem. He shot RFK immediately following the announcement that he had won the California Primary and was a shoe-in for the nomination as Presidential candidate for the Democratic Party. He would have gone up against Richard Nixon. Nixon eventually won against (then) Vice-President Hubert Humphrey. Humphrey was chosen as the last minute replacement for Kennedy.
RFK supported the State of Israel – something that Sirhan x2 did not.

With Egypt’s government (apparently) falling, this is a critical juncture in the long history of that country. It is yet another page. It is an important page in the “Modern” Era. Which way will history lead? My bet is they will form an ally with the U.S. This is due to the uproar that a dictatorship, such as Mubarak showed when he shut down the internet access in the country. Freedom of speech is critical and cornerstone to any Representative Democracy. People do not like to be silenced. That is what happened. Satellite phones and HAM radio is how we received any information following the shut down. We have Joe Leiberman and Susan Collins proposing legislation for here. We can not let them, or anybody else. They need to be voted out of office for the shear notion of proposing it. (A touch of irony – shutting up the people who are proposing to shut us up?) We started hearing rumblings in Syria and Jordan after Egypt. I heard about Arabia getting into the game. My favorite is Iran over the past weekend. It appears, “W” did not have to rely on a Congress that couldn’t be trusted after all. He was right. If the Iranian people wanted Democracy bad enough they would achieve it themselves. He just help make it happen next door in Iraq. So it wasn’t “out of sight, out of mind” to the Iranians. Soon the rest of the Middle East will be “Walking Like an Egyptian” towards Democracy. This will not happen over night. It will not happen in a 20 second sound bite (or is it down to 5 seconds?) The Journalists on the left will have it wrong and so will the talk show hosts, right and left alike.
